Job overview
The Paediatric Emergency Department at the Great North Children’s Hospital is excited to offer a new opportunity for an Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACP) to join the team. Following investment to improve the pathway for children and young people accessing emergency care ACP’s have been introduced as a new tier of staff. You will work with staff from Emergency Medicine, Paediatrics, other ACP’s and also Paediatric Nurse Practitioners.
The successful candidates will have completed a Master’s programme to develop knowledge and clinical skills to manage and care for children and young people attending the department with a wide range of injuries and illnesses from minor to life threatening. The expectation is you will work at registrar level.
You will be supported by a Clinical Supervisor, the PEAU Matron and the Clinical Board Head of Nursing. We would welcome applicants that are RCEM accredited but can also provide support to complete this portfolio. The role is supported by an 80/20 clinical/non clinical split and clinical shifts are between 10 and 4am.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* In this advanced role the post holder will provide expert clinical management and care to patients in a role traditionally undertaken by doctors working at registrar level.
* The post holder will function on the upper tier of the Junior Medical/ Registrar on-call rota.

Person specification
Qualifications & Education
* Successful completion of Advanced Clinical Practitioner Training (full master’s level equivalent)
* Successful completion of non-medical prescribing course
* Hold a recognised teaching qualification
* Completion of Royal College approved portfolio
Knowledge & Experience
* Previous experience at ACP Level, or equivalent
* Evidence of capability and commitment to teach and train other staff
* Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development, in specialist field
* Experience of contributing to the development of healthcare staff at a departmental / Trust level
* Evidence of teaching experience outside of a single professional group
* Significant contribution to healthcare quality improvement project(s)
* Evidence of involvement with and/or credentials in healthcare research
Skills & Abilities
* Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
* Ability to prioritise a complex workload and work in a rapidly changing environment
