Band 7

Main area: Radiotherapy. Contract: Permanent (mat leave cover) with reduced hours from others to make substantive hours. Full time - 37.5 hours per week. Job ref 321-SW-7722700-B7-EXT

Job overview

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, compassionate and highly motivated Team Leader Therapeutic Radiographers to join our team at the Oxford Cancer Centre. Patients are at the heart of what we do, and we seek Radiographers who deliver care with compassion and respect.

Our department is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including Varian Halcyons, Varian TrueBeams with 6DoF, RGSC, and SRS capability, Siemens CT GoSims, HDR, networked by ARIA. We operate across multiple sites (Swindon & Milton Keynes satellites) as three sites, one team.

We support professional growth with induction, Practice Educator help, and opportunities to participate in projects, audits and research. CPD funding is available for courses and conferences.

Main duties of the job

To lead and coordinate day-to-day clinical operations of the linac in line with department and Trust policies.

Manage a caseload of patients with accurate and consistent planning and treatment. Liaise with the multidisciplinary team.

Support and train team members to develop professional and personal skills and standards.

Assist the Pre-Treatment and Treatment Lead Radiographers and Radiotherapy Satellite Operational Manager in implementing changes within the radiotherapy service.

Provide expert advice on treatment procedures and management of treatment-related side effects to patients and carers.

Liaise with other disciplines to ensure comprehensive patient care coverage.

Person specification


Education/Qualifications

* Educated to Master (radiotherapy) level or equivalent knowledge related to the role


Experience

* Participation in radiotherapy development work
* Previous NHS experience in Radiotherapy
* Relevant Band 6 Therapeutic Radiographer experience
* Participation in implementation of change in practice or new equipment
* Experience using Varian/ARIA equipment
* Experience using Eclipse & Somavision planning systems
* Participation in research


Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

* Understanding of CPD requirements of the profession
* Self-motivated, able to work as part of a team or autonomously
* Effective personnel management, including supervision of junior radiographers and other staff
* Strong technical skills, manual dexterity
* Leadership, organisational and decision-making skills
* Analytical and numerical skills; problem solving
* Good interpersonal and communication skills
* Ability to work well within a team; knowledge of advanced and complex treatment techniques
* Experience with new equipment or technology implementation
* Core knowledge of radiotherapy treatment planning and radiation dosimetry
* Excellent anatomical knowledge; knowledge of IR(ME)R 2017
* Good image interpretation skills; awareness of current radiotherapy trends
* Attendance at relevant lectures/workshops/study days
