Research Assistant – Primate Behaviour
Nottingham Trent University is seeking a motivated individual to support a wide range of primate behaviour research projects within the School of Social Sciences. The role offers training in advanced non‑human primate social behaviour methods, such as facial expression analysis (FACS), and opportunities to work directly with primates.
Responsibilities
* Provide support for small or pilot projects and on‑going externally funded research.
* Assist with quantitative observational methods and experimental cognitive behavioural research techniques involving wild and/or captive primates.
* Collaborate with academic staff across topics including primate environmental physiology, social cognition, communication, individual differences and social relationships.
* Conduct desk‑based tasks with the potential for direct primate interaction.
* Build experience and skills in preparation for future PhD positions in primate behaviour.
Qualifications & Skills
* Interest and skills in primate behaviour research, including quantitative observational and experimental cognitive behavioural techniques.
* Familiarity with wild and/or captive primates.
* Willingness to learn training in non‑human primate social behaviour methods such as FACS.
* Strong analytical and organisational abilities.
* Desire to develop expertise in primate behaviour for prospective PhD programmes.
Salary & Contract
£27,246 – £28,608 per annum
8 month fixed‑term contract (full‑time)
