Café Assistant
Location: Rotherham
Salary: £23,875 per annum FTE
Hours: 2 part-time positions available, 14 hours per week and 16 hours per week
The Hospice is a charity dedicated to the people of Rotherham, offering specialist palliative and end-of-life care since 1996.
The Role
At the Hospice, their café spaces are community hubs where staff, patients, families, and supporters gather. As a Café Assistant, you will help create a warm, welcoming environment, ensuring visitors experience kindness and excellent service. This role supports their Living Life's Wishes strategy, making every moment meaningful.
Positions are available across all three café locations: Swinton, Parkgate, and Broom Road, with varying hours including weekend-only shifts.
Key Responsibilities
1. Food & Drink Service
2. Prepare and serve food and beverages with high-quality presentation.
3. Operate the till, handle cash and card payments, and keep accurate records.
4. Follow all food safety and hygiene protocols.
5. Assist in setting up and closing the café, ensuring cleanliness and readiness.
1. Customer Service & Engagement
2. Provide friendly, welcoming, and efficient service.
3. Be knowledgeable about menu items and assist with dietary requirements or allergens.
4. Support fundraising efforts by engaging customers about initiatives where appropriate.
1. Food Safety & Hygiene
2. Adhere to Level 2 Food Safety standards.
3. Follow HACCP procedures and maintain food temperature logs.
4. Assist in allergen management and communicate dietary info to customers.
5. Assist in stock rotation and monitor use-by dates.
6. Ensure hygiene and cleanliness standards are met.
1. Teamwork & Support
2. Work closely with the Café Supervisor for smooth operations.
3. Support volunteers and new team members with guidance.
4. Assist in training volunteers and managing stock.
Skills and Qualifications
* Experience in café, hospitality, or customer service roles.
* Level 2 Food Safety in Catering (or willingness to obtain).
* Friendly, approachable, and team-oriented.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment maintaining high standards.
* Basic numeracy skills for cash handling and stock monitoring.
