We have an exciting opportunity for a Technology Author to join our growing IT team based in the A&O Shearman Belfast office.
The core of the global technology department’s mission is to provide stable, reliable, and secure platforms and services to our partners, staff and clients and fulfil our regulatory obligations across 30+ countries. To ensure that a consistent and standardised IT service is delivered to all offices, IT is managed and led as a global function, enabling all offices to benefit from complete systems integration and economies of scale. We have around 400 technologists based predominantly in the UK, Singapore and increasingly in the US.
Enterprise Architecture and Technology Platforms
To develop and maintain the firm’s technology strategy and enterprise architecture. In parallel, own, improve and simplify the firm’s key technology ‘building blocks’ by designing, building and managing the core technology platforms which are fundamental to delivering strategic business goals.
Reporting to the Head of Enterprise Architecture and Technology Strategy, this role researches, writes and edits complex technical information for a target audience. The role is a member of the Enterprise Architecture and Technology platform leadership team and is responsible for managing and motivating a team of skilled IT professionals and directing external third-party service providers.
The role is accountable for collaborating with the IT Enterprise, Solution and System Architects to create clear documentation of the firm's IT landscape, including strategic goals, roadmap, and architectural designs.
The role will also be accountable for the maintenance of the enterprise architecture knowledge base to ensure that the documentation reflects approved architecture. They will also own the taxonomy of the central file repository for all enterprise architecture documentation.
What you will do
1. Develop customer relationships with fee earners and business teams to manage the delivery of high-quality technology documentation.
2. Support the Enterprise Architecture & Technology Platforms leadership team to collectively define, implement and operate the processes around creating the firm’s technological documentation.
3. Manage the lifecycle of all enterprise architecture documentation.
4. Ensure that all architectural related documents adhere to established standards.
5. Act as the focal point for matters related to technology documentation, providing expert guidance to other teams when required.
6. Support service provider reviews to assess performance against service targets, drive innovation and ensure any remediation activities are being delivered.
7. Contribute to the management of the technology documentation process’ budget and benefits delivery, developing estimates and tracking performance against plans.
8. Identify and pursue opportunities for continuous improvement in technology documentation processes.
9. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
What you will have
10. Direct or related experience in technical writing with experience documenting enterprise-level IT systems and architecture preferably within the legal or professional services sector.
11. Knowledge and understanding of content management and collaboration platforms and their operational management.
12. Knowledge of IT strategic planning, design, and operations processes.
13. Proven project management capabilities.
14. Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks.
15. In-depth knowledge of data quality, metadata management, and related disciplines
16. Knowledge of current IT and data market trends and technology innovations.
17. Proven track record of managing teams.
18. At least 5 years background in the IT industry, with experience managing enterprise-level documentation including design patterns, technology roadmaps and governance policies
19. Proven stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
20. Proven business acumen and ability to understand how they add value the function, firm or clients.
21. Ability to lead and develop team members.
22. Promotes the firm's values at all times and is comfortable working with a wide range of people and departments.
