Library Assistant


The Library Services team is central to the student experience here at Cardiff Met. Our innovative Workshop program, tying Academic and Library skills to the academic journey, creates a supportive and complementary network of self-directed learning for students.

Customer support is a key element to the Library Service – ensuring all our students and staff get the help and support they need through a new Student Information Point. You will work alongside colleagues from other departments on a single point of contact desk. Away from the desk you will work a variety of tasks and projects which could include collection management, communications, user feedback or general library administration.

You'll support by

* Upholding customer service excellence through proactive maintenance and development of the Library environment, services, collections and team, with adherence to risk management and health and safety standards.
* Ensuring a professional, timely and customer-focused response to enquiries received, answering and referring these to other departments as necessary.
* Resolving problems and make sound decisions to ensure the effective delivery of services within your own level of responsibility, referring more serious matters as appropriate.
* Assisting in delivering and promoting Library Services across the University and providing a quality customer focused service for the benefit of all our users.

This role offers 22.2 hours per week which will include working Mondays, Tuesdays, and one additional day in the week.

What you'll bring

* Knowledge of Library services within an HE, public or commercial setting.
* Understanding of the application of ICT in higher education inclusive of library management systems, discovery services and other learning technologies.
* Sound inter-personal skills, possessing a courteous and helpful approach.
* Excellent communication skills with students, staff or in a customer service setting.
* Ability to perform well working in a team.
* Excellent time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and, where necessary, projects.
