An excellent opportunity has opened within our Operations department for a Cargo Senior Operative to join us and be based out of our operation in the London Gateway. Reporting to the Cargo Superintendent, our ideal candidate will take lead of the day to do operations of the Cargo team. Work closely with customers, contractors and internal teams to ensure cargo is handled to the highest standards of safety, compliance and customer satisfaction. Location: Stanford Le Hope Working Hours: 40 Hours (Shift Pattern) How will you contribute: Supervise a team of Senior Operatives and contract labour, ensuring all tasks are completed safely and efficiently. Plan and manage the movement of Project Cargo, OOG (out of guage) and Un-containerised cargo, including loading, lashing and securing. Prepare documentation for all unconventional lifts, ensuring compliance with LOLER and customer requirements. Create and manage lift plans and lashing plans for cargo loaded to vessels or flat racks. Manage equipment and materials, including lashing gear, timber and lifting tools, ensuring they are safe, compliant and well maintained. Respond to incidents, including leaking or damaged containers and coordinate clean-up and repacking as needed. Support container vanning/devanning and other cargo handling activities as required. Maintain accurate records of all OOG and Project Cargo movements for future reference. Promote a strong safety and welfare culture, ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental standards. Collaborate with other departments to improve communication, reduce equipment damage, and enhance operational efficiency. What will you Bring: Experience in cargo handling, port operations, or logistics—especially with OOG or heavy lift cargo. Strong understanding of LOLER regulations and safe lifting practices. Proven ability to lead teams and manage third party contractors. Excellent organisational and communication skills. A proactive approach to safety, compliance and continuous improvement. Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends as required by operational demands. Solid knowledge of health, safety, and welfare practices in an industrial environment.
