The Service & Team:
The key purpose of the team is to:
1. Ensure that appropriate housing options and advice are delivered in various formats to meet service delivery for all customers approaching the service in housing need.
2. Provide high-quality homelessness prevention, advice, and assistance to households who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.
3. Conduct thorough assessments and investigations of customers' housing circumstances, ensuring compliance with statutory duties and policies.
4. Provide specialist housing advice to key client groups.
The Role:
This role involves delivering housing advice and assistance to a challenging group of clients while maintaining high standards and ensuring the Council’s statutory duties are met in line with KPIs. The postholder will work as part of a county-wide team, offering specialist advice through face-to-face interviews in offices or outreach settings, and collaborating with partner agencies such as St Petroc’s, Coastline, and Addaction. The Homelessness Prevention & Casework Outreach Worker (Rough Sleepers) will lead in delivering and developing a proactive homelessness prevention and relief service, contributing to the Cornwall Rough Sleeping Reduction Strategy.
The role also involves ensuring the Council fulfills its statutory duties to homeless individuals compassionately and professionally, preventing harm or loss of life among vulnerable customers or children sleeping rough in Cornwall. The postholder will provide comprehensive housing advice and support, identify at-risk individuals early, and work proactively to prevent or resolve homelessness. They will also develop, review, and update Personalised Housing Plans in accordance with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, aiming to minimize the use of temporary accommodation by exploring all other options.
