About the role.
CMI is actively seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Head of Product Development and Innovation to spearhead the strategic evolution of its product portfolio across diverse audiences.
Reporting directly to the Chief Product & Marketing Officer, this pivotal role involves orchestrating the strategic vision of the organisation, fostering a team of 8 professionals, and ensuring alignment between product offerings and market demands.
The ideal candidate will possess a nuanced understanding of market dynamics, coupled with a knack for innovation and strategic and forward-thinking.
In collaboration with the senior leadership team, the candidate will leverage insights from customer, competitor, and market analyses to craft a robust product roadmap that enhances CMI’s market standing and long-term viability.
Key responsibilities encompass maximising growth opportunities within existing products, leading horizon-scanning initiatives for new developments, and conceiving, implementing, and funding innovative products that complement CMI’s existing suite. Moreover, the role involves proactively mitigating risks posed by policy changes, driving customer-centric research initiatives, and staying ahead of market trends and political landscapes to capitalise on emerging opportunities. Emphasising a collaborative approach, the Head of Product Development and Innovation will champion a culture of continuous improvement while ensuring clarity and coherence in articulating product propositions.
Within CMI’s established product development strategy, the emphasis lies on horizon scanning, strategic alignment, and leveraging existing strengths while exploring new avenues. Supported by dedicated research teams and under the leadership of an approachable and vision-driven CMO, the product development team operates within a culture of progression and accountability.

The ideal candidate will embody a wealth of strategic experience in product innovation and development. This individual will adeptly utilise the latest digital and technological advancements to align products with evolving user needs.
Their proficiency extends to horizon scanning the political and policy landscape to inform a comprehensive product roadmap. With a deep understanding of both regulated and unregulated qualification markets, along with associated funding landscapes, the ideal candidate will comfortably engage with executive teams and possess a commitment to leveraging customer insights for product creation.
They must exhibit exceptional analytical skills, strategic evaluation, and proposition development capabilities, coupled with a track record of driving transformative change in fast-paced environments.
The successful candidate will be adept at crafting compelling business cases, analysing commercial opportunities, and demonstrating a keen aptitude for storytelling.
Additionally, they will possess outstanding communication skills, fostering inclusive cultures and collaborating effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
