Due to the retirement of the current post-holder, the Governors of St Nicholas School are seeking a highly motivated, proactive and experienced School Business Manager to join our friendly and hard-working team.
From February 2026 (or sooner, if available)
37.5 hours per week during term time only plus 2 weeks, i.e. 41 weeks of the year.
Salary: at Surrey Grade 9 £41,585 FTE, which means pro-rata actual salary of £39,177.
The role
This pivotal role offers the opportunity to make a real impact on the success and sustainability of our school and to enable others in the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning.
As School Business Manager, you will be responsible for the effective management of the school’s finances and resources, personnel, premises, and administrative functions. Working closely with the Headteacher and Governors, you will help shape strategic decisions and ensure the smooth running of our school.
This is an exciting role for a finance professional able to transfer their knowledge and skills into an educational setting, and ultimately for the benefit of all of our children.
The Ideal Candidate should have:
1. Accountancy qualification or equivalent degree.
2. Strong knowledge of finance processes and regulations.
3. Experience working in a Finance or Business Manager role, ideally within education.
4. Excellent interpersonal, organisational, technological and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
5. To work as part of the Senior Leadership Team responsible for Finance, Premises, Health and Safety and Personnel and to liaise with the Headteacher over budget matters.
6. To ensure that the Governors and the Headteacher are provided with appropriate information to ensure effective financial planning, budgeting, and reporting.
7. To ensure school resources, including Information Technology, are maintained and that procurement procedures ensure best value in every area.
8. To ensure that the buildings and grounds are maintained and comply with health and safety guidelines and statutory inspections.
9. Along with the Human Resources Manager, to ensure that the human resource function supports the Staff and Senior Leaders of the school.
10. To ensure effective recording of staff attendance and reporting for payroll services.
11. To support the development of school policies and procedures .
12. To drive efficiency and innovation across school operations.
13. To be responsible for and line manage Administrative and Premises Staff.
