Overview
KMPT are recruiting 2 Medical Education UG Fellows - Trust Grade ST4-ST7 Trainee Doctor. A full-time post (40 hours) is available and a second post which can be part-time from 2 days (16 hours) per week up to full time, depending on the successful candidate's preference. The post is a 12-month fixed term Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) from 06/08/2025 to 04/08/2026. The post holder will be expected to attend various locations in Kent for meetings, teaching sessions and events, with a flexible base to suit the appointed candidate.
This Medical Education Fellowship Post is hosted by Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust (KMPT). The fellowship supports Undergraduate workstreams concerning Medical Student Psychiatry Placements at KMPT, with medical students linked to King\'s College London School of Medicine (GKT) and Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS).
Funding for a Postgraduate Qualification in Education will be available to the appointed candidate to undertake in the year. Proposed interview date: 28 March 2025. The post is designed for ST4-7s who wish to commit to education as part of their career. The 12-month OOPE post is based at KMPT and aims to develop teaching experience, educational theory and practice, and supervised educational research.
The post holder will have a designated educational mentor to oversee development as an educator and coordinate opportunities for personal development. A customised training and educational experience programme will be designed around the individual\'s needs.
Although enthusiasm for teaching is a prerequisite, no assumptions will be made about formal knowledge of educational theory or practice. Hands-on teaching will be central, with engagement in educational issues around undergraduate and postgraduate training in a changing context, both nationally and locally.

Post Description
The Fellowship includes the following components:
1. Teaching
The post holder will have a regular schedule of teaching commitments and will contribute to the Trust\'s undergraduate education programme for Medical Students. In collaboration with the Trust Undergraduate Tutor, the post holder will lead in supporting and delivering the in-house teaching programme for undergraduate medical students on Psychiatry placements within the Trust. Includes induction days, coordinating fellow psychiatric trainees to teach students, supporting simulation training and student meetings. Undergraduate Administrators help with feedback and organising teaching topics; opportunities to audit aspects of the undergraduate teaching programme.
2. Educational Research and QI
Opportunity to participate in educational research activities and Quality Improvement projects focused on undergraduate medical student training. The Trust has a large Research department and QI Team. The post holder will be supported to generate publishable outputs, including conference presentations and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
3. Clinical commitment
A clinical commitment of 1 day per week with the Trust to maintain clinical involvement during the attachment, potentially including outpatient clinics or related activity. Remuneration aligned with training level at appointment.
4. Learning about Medical Education Structures and Roles
Attend Trust Medical Education Committee meetings and have opportunities to attend KMMS (Canterbury) and GKT (London) meetings and shadow UG tutors and the Director of Undergraduate Medical Education.
5. Simulation
Simulation training for undergraduates is a key part of the department; role includes supporting simulation training at teaching events.

Clinical Duties
Within the Medical Education department, the Fellow will join an enthusiastic, multi-professional team and will be exposed to patients (e.g., Older Adults) and Psychiatric Inpatient wards. Specialist clinics can be accommodated depending on the candidate\'s requirements. Contribution to an out-of-hours Tier 2 on-call rota will be expected for section 12 approved doctors.
Responsibilities
The Fellow will be part of the Medical Education team and will carry out projects/roles to support education, training and improved experience for medical students as part of the fellowship focus. The post offers opportunities to develop educational insight and capacity, including lecturing, small-group teaching, multi-professional learning, professional development training, and clinical skills training for undergraduates. The Fellow will learn workplace-based assessment methods and appraisal techniques and will be expected to build a clinical educational portfolio.
You may work with the Medical Education Manager and Deputy on projects such as: simulation facility development and training; medical student teaching and inductions; alignment of teaching with curricula; development of in-house website content and e-learning resources; audit and quality monitoring; and faculty development teaching. Administrative support will be provided on all projects. The post holder will carry out two sessions of clinical work per week. Duties may vary over time and are subject to management review.
Appraisal and supervision: The Director of Undergraduate Medical Education will supervise the Fellow, with one hour per week of supervision, including setting objectives and agreeing a personal development plan. Development needs will be met through the Trust along with KMPT opportunities and services.
Environment and Requirements
* Driving licence essential.
* Flexibility to travel across KMPT sites within Kent and to work cross-site as required.
* Face-to-face teaching at various KMPT Kent sites.
