Newly Qualified Salaried GP - ARRS (Urgent Care)

Following the release of ARRS funding for GPs, Barrow Together PCN are looking to expand our team by employing a newly qualified General Practitioner (Urgent Care). The post holder must be within 2 years of completion of training at the start of employment and must not have previously held a substantive post.

The role will support and deliver our Urgent Care service across 7 of the 8 practices that make up Barrow Together PCN, taking a hands‑on role to provide acutely unwell patients with further assessment and treatment.


Main duties of the job

* Undertake surgery, telephone, video consultations and written queries.
* Visit patients at home, be on call, check and sign repeat prescriptions and deal with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
* Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self‑referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
* Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
* Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
* Engage with activities such as the QOF, LES/DES and other additional work essential for providing a full service for patients.
* Develop care plans in line with current practice disease management protocols.
* Provide counselling and health education.
* Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and refer to other care providers as appropriate.
* Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
* Compile and issue computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions, avoiding handwritten prescriptions whenever possible.
* Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically).
* Undertake all normal duties and responsibilities of a GP working within primary care.

* Adapt to any change made to the organisation structure/delivery of service.
* Work as an integral part of the whole team.

Person Specification


Experience

* Newly Qualified General Practitioner (under 2 years from qualification at start of contract)
* Experience of providing primary care
* Experience of audit and improving care for patients
* Development of areas of clinical expertise
* Experience of working in primary care in an area with significant health problems


Knowledge

* General understanding of the primary care contract
* Understanding the role of medical services in a wider public health agenda
* Knowledge of the demographic characteristics that affect health and health care in the area
* Understanding current NHS policies


Qualifications

* General Practitioner (Certificate of Completion of Training CCT) - within less than 2 years at start of employment
* MBBS or equivalent medical degree
* Certification of Completion of Training
* Currently on the Performers List and not suspended
* Medical practitioner whose name is included in the General Practitioner register and not subject to suspension.
* DBS clearance.
* Familiar with EMIS web.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
