Overview
We are seeking an ECU Manager to lead the Economic Crime Unit (ECU) within the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals and ensuring compliance with the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
The role is hybrid, with home and office-based elements. There will be travel across the country for meetings and operational duties. Incident response is a central part of the role and may attract additional payment. Training and workplace adjustments are available to support you.
Responsibilities
* Provide strong leadership and development for a dispersed team, including two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer.
* Strategically lead financial investigations and manage performance and work delivery in line with POCA obligations.
* Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC) to influence at senior levels and ensure EA priorities are supported by enforcement agencies.
* Support the wider organisation in improving processes and understanding of POCA; share lessons learned and contribute to technical documentation; advise enforcement officers nationwide.
* Lead and develop the Economic Crime Unit, which comprises the Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigations Team, consisting of Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers and Crime Analysts.
* Lead in a way that enhances the capability of the team and individuals within it, while maintaining high standards of performance and delivery.
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and maintain a focus on reducing financial criminality at a national level.
Qualifications and Experience
* Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience in leading a dispersed team.
* Good understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Experience in law enforcement or related sectors with knowledge of the National Intelligence Model.
* Strong communication skills, including delivering feedback, managing performance, and building relationships with external stakeholders.
* Ability to work under pressure and manage a varied workload; identify areas for improvement and lead changes to working practices.
* Experience developing and enhancing the capability of a team and the individuals within it.
