Production Engineer
We are looking for a motivated and skilled Production Engineer to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with strong technical knowledge, practical experience, and a passion for driving continuous improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and contribute to continuous improvement projects, including process mapping, product flow optimisation, and shop floor layout enhancements.
* Program, prove, and operate a range of machinery such as CNC profile machining centres and punching equipment, while providing training to colleagues where needed.
* Prepare cost analyses and justifications for new products and product improvements to support project evaluation and decision-making.
* Develop manufacturing support documentation (e.g. process sheets, work instructions, control plans) to reduce defects and boost productivity.
* Collaborate closely with the Design team to support new product development, product changes, and process improvements, while also assisting other departments where required.
* Research, justify, and implement new manufacturing processes and technologies.
* Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BoMs), manufacturing routes, and standard operating procedures.
* Liaise with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of parts/products and to identify cost-saving opportunities.
* Carry out additional tasks as required to support the smooth and efficient running of the business.
Experience & Education
* Honours Degree (minimum 2:2) in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline, or at least 5 years' relevant experience.
* HND/HNC (minimum Merit) in Mechanical or General Engineering with 10 years' experience also considered.
* Time-served apprenticeship is advantageous.
* Proven experience in production engineering within both high-volume and bespoke low-volume manufacturing environments.
* Strong practical engineering background with hands-on experience.
* Knowledge of aluminium extrusion, injection moulding, pressings, castings, and joining techniques (welding, riveting, etc.) is desirable.
* Familiarity with process line manufacture and fabrication machinery is beneficial.
* CAD skills, particularly in SolidWorks and AutoCAD, are advantageous.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
* Strong organisational and project management skills to drive projects through to completion.
* Effective communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to engage across internal teams and with external suppliers.
* Self-motivated, with a proactive approach, strong work ethic, and willingness to embrace new opportunities.
