Working for Dover Precision Components, as a Skilled CNC Operator, you will be part of a fully integrated Computer Aided Manufacturing facility, utilising CNC machining centres for turning, milling, and grinding operations to produce customised designs from various materials including steel, copper, brass, aluminium, and bronze.
The facility has a broad range of multi-axis machine tools, lathes, mills, and associated equipment. The workload involves a high-mix of customised fluid-film bearings, seals, and isolators for turbo and industrial machinery, supplying customers throughout Europe and beyond.
*Please Note: This position is offered as a permanent contract working night shift, which includes a 33.3% shift premium, resulting in total annual earnings of £50,743.90 plus productivity bonuses, pension, and life insurance.
What You Will Bring
* HNC or SVQ/NVQ level 3 in Mechanical Engineering, or a time-served apprenticeship in a machining discipline
* A minimum of 5 years experience operating CNC machine tools within a lean manufacturing environment
* Predominantly experienced as a Turner / performing turning operations with CNC lathes / turning centres
* Experience working with machine control systems such as Fanuc, Mazak, Heidenhain, or Haas
* Proven ability to hold tight machining tolerances of less than .0025mm
* Experienced with precision inspection equipment including micrometers, callipers, height gauges, and bore gauges
* Ideally with experience in the power generation, oil & gas, aerospace, or similar sectors
What You Will Do
* Read process sheets, blueprints, and sketches to determine machining requirements, dimensional specifications, setup, and operation
* Locate and download programs from a DNC storage system
* Interpret work instructions, select, and install proper tooling for operations
* Calculate appropriate feeds and speeds for various materials
* Read, understand, edit, or write complete programs
* Understand tooling and machinery capabilities
* Perform necessary quality inspections and understand quality systems
* Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce setup times and improve productivity
* Visually inspect final components
* Perform boxing, cleaning, oiling, wrapping, and boxing of finished products for shipment
* Perform cleaning, fitting, filing, tapping, reaming, blending, polishing, and aligning to ensure proper operation
* Use precision measuring instruments for dimensional verification
* Identify components accurately after assembly or manufacturing
