Job Title: Senior Quality Control System Engineer

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Quality Control System Engineer to oversee and maintain the Quality Control Systems (QCS), Headbox Control Systems, Calendar Control Systems, CD and MD Control Systems for Sappi Mills. The role requires compliance with engineering standards, implementing best practices, process optimization, and benchmarking against international operations for continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop QCS maintenance practices, schedules, resource allocation, and budgets to meet production and performance targets, aligning with regional maintenance strategies and international standards.
* Provide input on production targets, including shrinkage, standard deviation, and final product quality, benchmarking against international practices for competitiveness.
* Maintain effective communication of Data and BUS Links between QCS, DCS, and PLC systems based on international standards.
* Prioritize and motivate capital expenditure projects for new equipment, technology, or upgrades, ensuring alignment with best practices.
* Review control loop performance and implement improvements, benchmarking against international standards.
* Ensure a safe working environment for the QCS Engineering team, adhering to SHEQ and international safety standards.
* Monitor compliance with ISO Standards and benchmark against global quality standards for continuous improvement.
* Coordinate QCS duties and standby responsibilities across Sappi sites, prioritizing based on breakdowns and international response times.
* Manage QCS Department T&A, incorporating best practices for workforce management.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Recognized Engineering Degree or Diploma (NQF7), e.g., BSc/B Tech/NHD Elect Eng.
* Minimum 10 years’ experience in Quality Control System Engineering, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
* Essential experience with DCS, PLC, and IT systems.
* At least 10 years of experience within the Pulp and Paper industry.
* Extensive knowledge of Network Platform and Smart Platform software and hardware.
