Job Overview
* The post holder in collaboration with the Matron, Pre-assessment Lead nurse and the multi-disciplinary team is responsible for the delivery of safe, effective care leading to an excellent experience for patients and carers by;
* Being responsible for ensuring high quality, evidence-based patient centred care is delivered and providing assurance of this whilst delivering the Trusts core objectives and strategies.
* Being responsible for setting the standards with the nursing team and ensuring that the environment allows the workforce to feel supported to deliver safe and effective care.
* Developing and delivering continuous improvement initiatives to ensure that the service meets all Quality Indicator targets, Key performance indicators and quality and safety standards and initiatives relevant to the service.
* Reviewing and implementing the management of patient pathways to improve flow and efficiency in the wards/departments/clinics, ensuring the patients experience is positive while under our care.
Main duties of the job
Practice autonomously with a high level of accountability at an advanced clinical level in the direct delivery of high-quality care, making critical clinical decisions based on advanced clinical skills assessment.
With the support from the Matron, anaesthetist and the medical team, be responsible for a caseload of patients managing nurse led review clinic.
Works in partnership with individuals, families and carers, using a range of assessment methods as appropriate (e.g. history-taking, holistic assessment, identifying risk factors, mental health assessments, requesting, undertaking and/or interpreting diagnostic tests and conducting health needs assessments).
Collaborate with the multi-professional team to establish diagnosis and monitor disease progression in patients with ophthalmic conditions.
Challenge practice so that the best and most appropriate treatment is given to the patient; maintaining and monitoring high standards of care, recognising and responding proactively to patients’ changing clinical needs.
Under the supervision of the Matron, anaesthetist and medical team, work towards advanced ophthalmic practice competencies and non-medical prescribing as appropriate.

* Registered Nurse Degree level
* PG Cert: Clinical Ophthalmic experience
* Management qualification/experience
* Be competent in a range of ophthalmic skills set out in Appendix 2 (Biometry & Ascan)

* MSc or working towards MSc level qualification.
