Applications are invited for a Consultant Cellular Pathologist to join the current 22 Consultant Team at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, a University affiliated Teaching Hospital. An interest in Breast, Urology, Cytology, Endocrine, Renal, and Post-mortem pathology would be particularly welcome; however, the department is flexible and open to applicants with other areas of interest.
The workload is allocated by Subspecialist Teams based on RCPath points guidance. The role offers opportunities for research, teaching, and private practice.
The appointee should be a team player, enthusiastic trainer, and capable of fulfilling the duties outlined in the Job Description. The position is permanent, full-time (40 hours/week), including 2 SPAs with potential for up to 2 EPAs by mutual agreement. Part-time applications will also be considered.
The Pathology Department processes approximately 36,000 surgical and 3,700 diagnostic cytology specimens and holds full UKAS ISO 15189:2022 accreditation. The Molecular Genetics Laboratory is located on-site, and the department features an established, integrated Biorepository supporting research. BMS dissection and associate reporting practitioners are in training. The laboratory has recently been refurbished with modern facilities.
Applicants should possess a FRCPath (or equivalent). Full GMC registration with a license to practice is required, which must be in place before starting. UK-trained applicants should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of GMC Specialist Register entry. Alternatively, applicants can have a CESR / CESR (CP).
Applicants not on the GMC Specialist Register may be considered for a Locum Consultant position (up to 12 months). During locum employment, an application for CESR / CESR (CP) can be made.
