Derby Public Health Department is a forward-looking team with ambitions to improve the health and wellbeing of our city's population and reduce health inequalities through working collaboratively with local people, communities and partners.

The post of Public Health Support Officer provides an opportunity to use and develop a wide range of skills, knowledge, and experience including project management, data management and analysis, working with a wide variety of partners, report-writing and presentation.

Whilst the postholder could be asked to support work across all areas of the Public Health department, the Public Health Support Officer will primarily support our work in relation to children and young people, and sexual health. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your public health knowledge and experience of these areas, and public health more broadly and so is an ideal opportunity for those looking to progress a career in public health – longer-term this could include support to become a registered public health practitioner on the UK Public Health Register.

If you are highly numerate and analytical, with the ability to synthesise complex information, are pro-active and organised, and has excellent communication skills, Public Health Support Officer is the ideal job for you.

The Opportunity

In the role of Public Health Support Officer, here's an example of what you'll be doing to make an impact:

You will support the Public Health team with the management of a range of programmes of work, particularly in relation to children and young people and sexual health. This support will include:

* Provide project management and support for a range of Public Health programmes and initiatives.
* Collate, analyse and interpret a range of different data sources and information to support evidence-based public health planning and delivery.
* Contribute to the effective monitoring and evaluation of public health programmes and initiatives.
* Support the involvement of key community stakeholders, service users and support partner organisations in the development and delivery of programmes to promote health and related activities to tackle health inequalities.
* Support in the development of reports, presentations and other materials to enable effective communication with, and engagement of, key stakeholders.
* Support the planning, organisation, and facilitation of engagement events, meetings, conferences, seminars and workshops.

About You

To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have…

* Have excellent verbal and written communication.
* Be highly numerate with the ability to analyse and synthesise complex information and report and present it in a manner appropriate to the audience.
* Have good analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Have excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage priorities within often challenging deadlines.
* Have a broad understanding of project management principles or have experience of undertaking project management work.
* Have experience of working (or equivalent experience) in a local authority, the NHS wider public sector or similar setting.
* Have the ability to self-motivate, work independently and prioritise own workload.
* Be educated to degree level or have equivalent level of experience.
