About the Company

SONI is Northern Ireland’s Transmission System Operator. We are the people behind Northern Ireland’s electricity grid. We make sure that every home, business, school, hospital, factory and farm has power – when and where they need it. Our focus is on safety, security and reliability, and our culture is driven by continual development, knowledge and teamwork. We are committed to reducing reliance on fossil fuels and transforming the energy system to make decarbonisation a reality while providing a safe and reliable electricity supply.

The Role

As a Regulatory Analyst within the Commercial and Regulation team, you will contribute to a broad range of regulatory activities. This includes supporting price controls, revenue assessments, regulatory reporting, incentive arrangements and licence compliance. You will work collaboratively across the organisation and externally with the Utility Regulator, contributing to projects that underpin SONI’s financial and regulatory framework.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead and support regulatory projects, including price control implementation and enhancements to regulatory reporting processes.
* Manage licence compliance activities, including tracking obligations and delivering submissions to the Utility Regulator.
* Provide regulatory input and support for Single Electricity Market projects and wider organisational initiatives.
* Develop and implement processes to monitor and report on organisational performance, including service delivery outcomes and regulatory/budget adherence.
* Support tariff calculation activities to ensure the organisation’s financial sustainability.
* Engage proactively with the Utility Regulator and other stakeholders on regulatory matters.
* Collaborate with teams across the organisation to provide regulatory guidance and ensure alignment with requirements.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of processes, systems and reporting.
* Undertake additional responsibilities as reasonably required to support team and organisational priorities.

Essential Qualifications

* A degree (or equivalent experience) in business, economics, finance, accountancy, engineering or a related discipline.
* Experience developing, implementing and improving business processes.
* Experience preparing business cases, impact assessments or cost‑benefit analyses.
* Strong analytical skills (quantitative and qualitative), with excellent attention to detail and the ability to make sound, evidence‑based decisions aligned with organisational objectives.
* Proficiency in financial modelling and advanced use of MS Excel.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly and concisely.
* Effective organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to deliver high‑quality outputs to deadlines.
* Ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to changing requirements in a dynamic environment.
* Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate with and influence a range of stakeholders in a constructive and respectful way.

Desirable Qualifications

* Experience using SharePoint Lists, Power BI or Power Automate.
* Experience working in a regulated environment, regulatory body, or energy sector.
* Knowledge or experience in policy analysis, competition law or regulatory economics.
* Experience working in project‑based environments or formal project management experience.
* Relevant certification or training in financial modelling.

Benefits

* Play a vital role in shaping sustainable energy projects that benefit communities and the environment.
* Enjoy a competitive salary, performance‑related bonus, private medical cover and pension matching.
* Benefit from flexible working arrangements, including hybrid options (3 days in office / 2 days at home).
* Enhanced holidays, maternity and paternity leave and wellbeing days.
* Access salary sacrifice schemes (such as cycle‑to‑work, EV scheme), free car parking, onsite EV charging and complimentary lunch.
* Access professional development opportunities and clear career progression pathways.
* Inclusive culture that values diversity, supports flexible working and empowers you to grow. We can discuss how this role could work for you.
