Social Worker Youth Justice (SO3)
Salary £39,862 - £45,091. 37 hours per week, full‑time, permanent. Hybrid: Central House and homeworking.
Application deadline: 10 May 2026.
Your Role
You will work as part of a multi‑agency service, including police, probation and health colleagues, to prevent and reduce offending by children and young people by providing services as required by the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 and other relevant legislation. The posts also involve work with parents/carers and victims of crime. The service is guided by the Youth Justice Board principle of “child first” and focuses on encouraging children’s active participation, engagement and wider social inclusion. All work is a meaningful collaboration with children and their family/carers, promoting desistance from crime through prevention, diversion and evidence‑based intervention, minimising criminogenic stigma from contact with the system.
Qualifications and Experience
You will have experience of undertaking assessments and managing complex cases, planning appropriate and targeted interventions to reduce the risk of offending or re‑offending, writing high‑quality reports including preparing sentencing proposals, and presenting information to the courts when required. You possess skills in building supportive relationships and enabling children to develop a pro‑social identity for sustainable desistance.
We welcome candidates who are or are willing to become Practice Educator trained, to support Social Work students’ placements. The service will also provide a range of training in various disciplines, including work with other GM Youth Justice Services.
Successful applicants will be subject to satisfactory pre‑employment clearances, including a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
