Job Title: Strategic Planning Lead
Location: Durrington – Hybrid 2 days per week

Job Overview
Support development in the Southern Water region, understanding current and future housing development to help the company prepare for growth. Review of planning documentation, including local and neighbourhood plans to identify likely investments needs associated with growth and new development.
1. Carry out background research necessary to scope ‘issues and options’ local plans
2. Engage with local and neighbourhood development plan consultations at key stages, submitting relevant representations in accordance with company guiding principles.
3. Liaise with local planning authorities on development plans to identify likely investment needs associated with growth and new development, over the 5-25 year investment period
4. Support planning policy interfaces with Southern Water stakeholders including local authorities, stakeholder groups and developers
5. With guidance and support from the Future Growth Lead, co-ordinate the representation of company views from across the Southern Water team to help inform stakeholders growth plans
6. Proactive engagement with local authorities, developers and other stakeholders to help Southern Water plan for the future
7. Support planning policy changes by engaging with local authorities, stakeholder groups and developers
8. This role will cover the West of the region so travel across West Sussex & Hampshire 2-3 times per month is a prerequisite of the role
About You
We are looking for a person with excellent interpersonal, communication and engagement skills; self-motivation, resilience and adaptability are also important qualities for this role, as well as being a self-starter.
9. You will have in-depth planning experience; appreciating the needs of local planning authorities, developers and infrastructure providers such as water companies
10. You will have excellent stakeholder engagement skills and be able to develop and sustain good working relationships, including effective liaison across internal teams
11. Hold a Degree in Science, engineering, town planning (or equivalent)
12. Flexibility and independence with an ability to contribute to overcoming problems and develop creative solutions
13. Effective written communication skills with an ability to influence decision making and convey complex information with clarity and precision
14. Research skills, able to bring together a range of information to contribute to a clear plan
15. Interpersonal skills to create strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders
Package
This role will be full time Monday to Friday with a hybrid approach to working between our Durrington office and home. We are offering a salary of up to £55,000 per annum depending on skills and experience as well as other benefits including:
