Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) – Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) / Emergency Department (ED) Job Purpose To provide high-quality, patient-centered clinical care within the UTC and ED, working autonomously as part of a multidisciplinary team. The ANP will assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients with a wide range of undifferentiated and undiagnosed conditions, ensuring safe, timely, and effective care. Key Responsibilities Clinical Duties Undertake comprehensive history-taking, clinical assessment, examination, diagnosis, and management of patients. Manage undifferentiated and undiagnosed conditions presenting to UTC/ED. Prescribe medications and treatments within professional scope of practice. Order and interpret diagnostic investigations (bloods, X-rays, ECGs, etc.). Provide immediate life support and participate in resuscitation when required. Triage, prioritize, and manage patient flow safely and efficiently. Safely discharge or admit patients as appropriate, with clear documentation and communication. Deliver care across minor injuries, minor illnesses, urgent conditions, and acute presentations. Leadership & Professional Act as an autonomous practitioner while working collaboratively with ED consultants, GPs, nurses, and allied health professionals. Contribute to clinical governance, audits, and service improvement initiatives. Supervise, mentor, and support junior nursing staff, students, and trainees. Maintain advanced clinical skills through ongoing professional development and training. Education & Training Support education and training sessions for nursing and multidisciplinary colleagues. Act as a role model, promoting advanced practice and evidence-based care. Communication Communicate effectively with patients, carers, and the wider healthcare team. Provide clear explanations and patient education on diagnosis, management, and follow-up. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in patient records. Qualifications & Requirements Registered Nurse with current NMC registration. Master’s level qualification in Advanced Clinical Practice (or working towards). Independent Prescribing qualification (V300). Advanced clinical assessment and diagnostic skills. Experience in urgent or emergency care setting (UTC/ED). Evidence of ongoing professional development. Skills & Competencies Ability to work autonomously and make safe, evidence-based decisions. Strong clinical reasoning, diagnostic, and prescribing skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Resilience and ability to manage high-pressure, fast-paced environments. Leadership and teaching capabilities.
