Responsibilities
* Participate fully in the delivery of planned nursing care, supporting the Registered Nurse/ODP.
* Rotate through all areas of theatre, including Cardiac, Thoracic, Pacing, Forward Wait, Endoscopy, and specialities (vascular, aortic, ACHD).
* Participate in assessment of health‑care needs through completion and interpretation of assessment tools and documentation.
* Undertake general patient observations including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, general appearance and fluid balance, and report any untoward findings to Registered Nursing Staff/ODP.
* Wear appropriate safety attire (e.g., lead apron, FFP3 masks).
* At the direction of the Registered Nurse/ODP, undertake a range of clinical duties and skills such as safe patient positioning, preparation of surgical/anaesthetic equipment, swab/needle/instrument counts, collection of patient specimens for lab testing, and assistance in clinical procedures (e.g., insertion of IV lines, urinary catheter).
* Participate in decontamination and reprocessing of surgical instruments/equipment.
* Assist the Registered Nurse/ODP in evaluating care and completing patient documents; ensure all entries in patient records are countersigned by the Registered Practitioner.
* Involve patients and carers/relatives in the delivery of care, providing reassurance and support.
* Work collaboratively with others in the Operating Theatre to meet patient needs.
* Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
* Undertake transfer and escort of patients with moderate dependency to theatres, catheter labs and other clinical departments.
* Ensure safe disposal of waste and sharps per Trust policy.
* Care for patient property and valuables per Trust policy.
* Ensure theatres are cleaned and stocked after each case to maintain safety and cleanliness for the next case.
* Participate in all stages of the WHO Checklist.
Qualifications & Skills
* Band 3 theatre assistant experience (primarily circulating practitioner) preferred.
* Willingness and capability to learn new skills and work in a wide range of theatres.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast‑paced environment.
