Job Description
We’re seeking a skilled and enthusiastic technician to assist in projects expanding out portfolio of novel sweet proteins.
Your work will involve a mixture of hands-on project work and general lab management. This includes (but is not limited to) using synthetic biology approaches to expand testing portfolio of our sweet protein capabilities, producing and purifying lab-scale sample of sweet proteins, as well as management of equipment, consumables and microbial stores.
You will need the ability to balance multiple projects, effectively work collaboratively as well independently, keep precise record, communicate your work effectively with the wider renewfood team, and bring the core principles of scientific rigor to your day-to-day work.
Main Duties
Your duties and responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
* Implementing ReNewFood SOPs for the production and purification of proprietary flavour proteins
* Manage collection and storage of data associated with R&D projects in line with good data management practice
* Coordinate with renewfood’s technical team to support in the achievement of project objectives
* Manage and prioritise workload across multiple projects to successfully meet milestones and deadlines
* Management of laboratory reagents, chemicals and consumables stock
* Deliver project updates and present results via written reports or presentations to update on project statuses
renewfood is a young start-up so flexibility and the ability to learn quickly and effectively will be needed to succeed in this dynamic work environment
Conditions of Employment
Salary: £22,500 - £26,500 per annum (pro-rata)
Start Date: November 2025
Term: Employment will be on a permenant basis, with an initial 6-month probationary period
Work Pattern: This post is full-time (35 hours per week), with flexible weekday working between 0700 and 1800
Annual Leave: 33 days paid holiday per annum (inclusive of public holidays of England and Wales)
Work Location: Due to the practical nature of the role the majority of the work will be completed in our new lab space in Sheffield city centre, however renewfood is committed to supporting flexible work arrangements including the opportunity to work remotely when appropriate
Right To Work: renewfood is not currently able to support work visas, as such we are only accepting UK based applicants with existing right to work
Criteria for Employment
Essential
* Hold or be close to completing a MSc/MRes/MPhil in a scientific or engineering discipline (or have equivalent experience)
* Right to work in the UK (citizen or extant visa)
* Proven experience (academically or industrially) in cultivation of bacterial and/or yeast strains
* Proven experience in molecular cloning techniques
* Ability to independently plan and manage research projects
Desirable
* Experience in production and characterisation of recombinant proteins
* Experience in downstream purification of microbially derived products
* Ability to communicate experimental data and R&D outcomes to non-experts
* Understanding of handling sensitive and confidential information and maintaining trade secrets
* Experience in communicating and reporting to external stakeholders
* Experience in working under and producing documentation within a H&S management system
