Overview

Our Administrative Officers play a critical role, providing excellent administrative support and customer service to court users, judiciary and management. Civil Admin Officers assist with the creation and management of County Court claims which involves accounting for Court fees, dealing with correspondence from Court users, as well as liaising with Judges regarding the listing and hearing of cases.


Responsibilities

* Deal with enquiries from service users via post, email, telephone and face to face.
* Assist with the creation and management of County Court claims, including accounting for Court fees, handling correspondence from Court users, and liaising with Judges regarding listing and hearing of cases.
* Be assigned to teams to carry out a variety of general administrative duties to progress cases through the court/tribunal system or provide support to other functions within HMCTS.


Skills and Attributes

* Friendly and approachable manner with excellent attention to detail.
* Good written and verbal communication skills.
* Desire to deliver proactive and effective support to customers by phone and email.
* Strong time management, prioritisation, multi-tasking and adaptability to using various software packages.
* Enjoy working in a busy environment and helping court users navigate the justice system.


Working Arrangements

* Operational, customer-facing roles, office-based to provide HMCTS services to the public.
* Standard full-time working hours are 37 hours per week. Part-time, flexible and job-sharing patterns are welcome where they meet role and business needs; minimum hours for part-time would be 30 hours per week over 4 days.


Requirements and Eligibility

* Skilled Worker Visa: From 22 July 2025, the Government increased salary threshold and skills level for Skilled Worker visas. This role does not meet eligibility criteria for sponsorship for first-time Skilled Worker Visa applications under current immigration rules. The Department will not sponsor unless you have held a Skilled Worker visa continuously since before 22 July 2025. If you have held a Skilled Worker visa continuously, raise this during vetting checks for eligibility assessment under immigration rules and transitional provisions.
* Applicants must have and maintain the legal right to live and work in the Civil Service and in the United Kingdom.
* The Department will comply with UK Immigration Rules and Civil Service requirements.


Security and Nationality

* Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check.
* Baseline personnel security standard checks for those working with government assets.
* Nationality requirements include UK nationals, Irish nationals, Commonwealth nationals with right to work, EEA/Swiss/Norwegian/Icelandic/Liechtenstein nationals and families with settled or pre-settled status, and other eligible categories as described in the post.
