To support the Operational Leadin the professional development and management of social care staff. This willinclude providing professional specialist advice, support, guidance andpractice supervision to a range of qualified and non-qualified staff workingwithin Adult Social Care.
This post is in Adult Frailtyand Specialist Services Directorate, based in the Discharge to Assess Teamwhich sits within the Urgent Care System in Plymouth, although there may be arequirement to work in or support other areas such as Integrated CommunityServices.

Main duties of the job
This role will includeactivities that promote continuous professional development and the delivery ofhigh-quality support to users. The post holder will be required to demonstratea high level of professional competence in social work practice to nationallyrecognised standards, adopting a person-centred and reflective approach.
The post holder will be directlyresponsible for professional supervision and appraisal of staff. Reporting tothe Deputy Head when required. The post will promote the delivery ofpersonalisation in accordance with statutory requirements and departmentalpolicy

Responsibility for People Management
To provide practice supervision to a range of qualified andnon-qualified staff working within Adult Social Care.
To promote continuous professional development and the deliveryof high quality support to users
To provide advice and assistance to Social Workers and CommunityCare Workers in relation to complex case work.
To support workers to manage work within their caseloads as wellas managing the emotional demands of their own workload.
To facilitate and support the professional development of socialcare staff by providing professional supervision.
To provide a clear and responsive practice leadership rolewithin the Team including demonstrating best practice, mentoring staff andpromoting the highest professional standards via peer reviews and audits.
To manage performance of staff in collaboration with the DeputyHead, including the implementation, monitoring and review of practiceimprovement action plans for individuals and groups of staff.
Concentration required when providing supervisions and practiceguidance; ensuring staff work within legislation, national and localprocedures.
There will be conflicting demands when more than one personrequires support at the same time.
Conflicting information may require the post holder to usejudgement to assess a particular situation and decide on the best resolutionand advise the worker accordingly.

Delegated responsibility on a day to day basis for supportingstaff with issues such as: Protection of Vulnerable Adults Procedures,promoting personalisation and risk enablement.
To undertake duties based on current professional knowledge aswell as legislative and statutory requirements.
Demonstrates a high level of professional competence in socialwork practice to nationally recognized standards, adopting a person-centred andreflective approach.
To maintain a knowledge and expertise of the work the serviceundertakes in order to contribute to the development of services including bestpractice systems and protocols which support the delivery of a quality serviceand reflect any changes required.
Relaying of information to service users and carers wherepersonal budgets do not meet expectations requiring the application ofjudgement and empathetic negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Travel to visit service users homes, attend meetings and court.
To chair Best Interest meetings, Risk management meetings andSafeguarding /conference meetings

Risk Management
In accordance with the Risk Management Strategy, employees willparticipate, whenever required, with the risk management process. They willsupport line managers by attending mandatory and statutory training, completingincident/accident forms for every adverse event or near miss that occurs,report all defects and complaints, and communicate any dangerous situation toindividuals potentially at risk.

The Working Time Regulations apply to all employees of LivewellSouthwest.
