We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced planning professional to lead and manage the Development Management Section at Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council.
This is a pivotal time for our planning service, which is evolving. We seek an exceptional Development Manager to lead this transformation.
As a key member of the Planning Management Team, you will oversee various planning projects, shape the future of our borough, and contribute to a high-performing, customer-focused service. This leadership role involves managing planning staff, collaborating across departments, and driving innovation and service improvements. Your leadership will be crucial in balancing growth with environmental preservation, with 70% of the borough within the Green Belt and nearly 27% designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
You will help deliver the Council’s ambitions for sustainable growth while safeguarding natural and historic assets. With major regeneration initiatives and development projects underway, this role offers variety, challenge, and opportunities.
We seek a motivated, experienced leader with strong leadership, collaboration, and service excellence skills. Experience in staff development, mentoring, and change management is essential.
As Development Manager, you will be responsible for the effective operation of the Development Management service, including Planning Enforcement and the Tree Service. Candidates should be MRTPI members with a proven track record of delivering high-quality outcomes, managing performance, and inspiring teams. Excellent communication and organizational skills, along with a passion for development and placemaking, are required.
