North Bristol Trust is seeking to appoint exceptional consultants in anaesthesia for these exciting locum roles. Candidates should have broad interest in Vascular, Regional, Neuro‑anaesthesia, Major Elective Orthopaedics, Major Urology, Plastics, Gastro‑intestinal or pre‑operative assessment. (Full/Part time locum)

Responsibilities
* Provide regional endovascular services as part of the Vascular Network centralized in the South‑West.
* Deliver expanding regional anaesthesia service, supporting trauma and plastic surgery.
* Lead colorectal centre ERAS service, offering a full range of colorectal services.
* Support Bristol Urology Institute – a tertiary referral centre with specialist robotic surgery.
* Deliver specialist elective orthopaedic care, including complex deformity and spinal surgery.
* Participate in a designated Major Trauma Centre.
* Provide bariatric care.
* Engage in large neurosurgical centre research and clinical trials.
* Execute stroke thrombectomy service (24/7).
* Support plastics and burns unit services.
* Contribute to Breast Care Centre, primarily day‑case services.
* Assist in a busy obstetric unit with approximately 6,500 deliveries per year.
* Offer pain clinic services with an international reputation for spinal‑cord stimulator insertion.
* Collaborate in an integrated pre‑operative service including ERAS, complex medical assessment, CPET and pharmacy.
* Reside within 30 minutes of Southmead Hospital for on‑call purposes.
Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential)
* MB BS (or equivalent)
* Full GMC registration
* CCT in anaesthesia and entry on the GMC Specialist Register at appointment. Specialist registrars without a CCT must be due to award one within six months of interview date.
Qualifications (Desirable)
* Higher academic qualification (e.g. MD or MS)
* Teaching qualification (Diploma or higher)
* European Diploma in Regional Anaesthesia
Experience (Essential)
* Recent experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems.
* Minimum six years postgraduate experience; at least three years as a registrar in an approved training post or equivalent.
Experience (Desirable)
* Extensive subspecialty experience (regional, obstetrics, neuro, POAC, general).
* Experience with non‑UK hospital systems.
Knowledge (Essential)
* Recent CME and reasonable training progression at this career stage.
* Experience in audit projects, documented and written up.
* Knowledge of contemporary NHS management issues and the political context in which we operate.
Knowledge (Desirable)
* Faculty or organisational role in an educational course or conference.
* Completion of a general management course or programme.
* Involvement in clinical directorate management and demonstration of significant change management.
Skills (Essential)
* Proven teaching ability for under‑graduates and postgraduates.
* Willingness to undertake teaching duties.
Skills (Desirable)
* Track record in research and evidence of relevant publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
* Ability to teach effectively.
Personal Requirements (Essential)
* Ability to lead a team and establish effective working relationships.
* Good written communication skills; evidence of communication at all professional levels.
