Role Overview
CAF Rail UK maintains circa 500 Rolls Royce MTU power packs in operation across 5 projects in the UK. The performance of the power packs is vital to fleet performance and requires constant review to monitor emerging technical issues, conduct root cause analysis and identify performance improvements. Power packs cycle through overhaul at frequencies of 14,000 to 18,000 operational hours. Overhauls are currently subcontracted, but CAF is interested in developing options to conduct this operation in‑house. The Systems Engineer will support this process by working with the Projects, Supply Chain and Quality departments.
Responsibilities
* Review and monitor power pack performance data.
* Conduct root cause analysis of technical issues.
* Identify and implement performance improvements.
* Coordinate overhaul planning to maximize train availability and meet quality standards.
* Support the transition of overhaul operations to in‑house capability.
* Collaborate with Supply Chain, Quality, and Projects teams.
* Prepare audit, technical and maintenance reports.
Qualifications
* HND or above in an Engineering related discipline.
* Relevant auditing qualification desirable.
* Relevant training qualification desirable.
* Experience in a maintenance engineering role.
* PC literate with ability to learn new software programmes quickly.
* Proven experience in planning and organising.
* Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
