Tools Engineering Lead Full-Time, Permanent | Remote (UK-based)
We are looking for an Engineer to help scale our venture-backed interactive storytelling studio - Scriptic (BAFTA-nominated and available on Netflix). Our mission: to become the HBO of playable drama by 2030 - building original, screen-native IP that lives across platforms like Netflix, YouTube, Amazon, and emerging cloud services.
Our format blends imagery, audio, text, and video into seamless, emotionally-driven interactive experiences - built for TV, laptop, mobile, and ultimately, cloud distribution. In the short term, we're scaling to Steam and console to build the foundations for that future.
Since inception, we’ve been pioneers in blending storytelling with technology, using GenAI tools like GPT-4, MidJourney, and ElevenLabs to elevate narrative while staying lean and creatively agile.

Scriptic is pioneering interactive narrative experiences, building on our successful mobile IP and expanding onto cloud and desktop platforms. We're looking for a Cross-platform Tooling Lead with a strategic mindset to help us evolve our technology for multi-platform deployment, shaping the future of our studio’s narrative format.
You will be instrumental in upgrading our core tools and systems to meet the demands of desktop and cloud platforms, allowing our creative team to design and publish our interactive dramas to a wide range of devices. In addition, you’ll define and oversee outsourcing efforts, ensuring scalable, high-quality solutions.
Hands-on development of our core engine and tools to enable our creative team to develop our stories.
Evaluate, manage, and validate external contractors and outsourcing partners.
Identify technical opportunities to improve performance, usability, or scalability.
Collaborate closely with design and narrative teams to align tech solutions with creative goals.
Experience working on a tools driven game at scale in a Lead capacity or higher.
A minimum of 3+ years of recent experience with Unity 3D.
Mindset of providing technology in service of the creative teams.
Ability to work autonomously, in a self-motivated manner, whilst working remotely.
Great communication skills and the ability to evangelise contemporary testing practices to others
Bonus
Experience in developing data-driven UIs with data binding (e.g. WPF, Angular, React).
Implementing a scripting language into a game engine.
Familiarity with cloud gaming platforms or cross-platform deployment frameworks.
Passion for storytelling or narrative games
Interest in AI tooling and technology.
