Job Description: Quantity Surveyor / Estimator
Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to join our client based in East Yorkshire. Responsibilities
1. Prepare accurate cost estimates for construction, food retail fit-out, and fast-track projects, ensuring budgets align closely with project objectives.
2. Perform detailed quantity take-offs and create Bills of Quantities (BOQ) based on project specifications and designs.
3. Analyse and provide costings for materials, labor, and subcontractor expenses while ensuring all calculations are based on current market trends.
4. Collaborate with project managers, architects, and other stakeholders to develop realistic budgets and timelines.
5. Develop cost control measures and monitor expenditure to minimize project wastage and maintain profitability.
6. Evaluate contractor and subcontractor bids, ensuring project costs align with organizational objectives.
7. Manage and ensure project compliance with national building codes, safety standards, and sustainability guidelines.
8. Conduct regular site visits to monitor project progress and ensure alignment with cost expectations.
9. Prepare detailed progress reports and updates for senior management and clients.

Qualifications
11. Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
12. Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor and/or Estimator in the construction industry, particularly in food retail fit-out and fast-track projects.
13. Strong knowledge of construction processes, building materials, and market trends.
14. Proficient with estimation software and tools.
15. Exceptional analytical and mathematical skills, with the ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
16. Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with a collaborative mindset.
17. Strong problem-solving skills with acute attention to detail.
18. Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Day-to-day
20. Conduct cost assessments for ongoing and potential projects and provide updated project forecasts to the team.
21. Collaborate with various departments, including project management, procurement, and construction teams, to ensure budgetary alignment with project goals.
22. Meet with clients, contractors, and design consultants to discuss project specifications and budgets.
23. Review and analyse tenders and quotations submitted by subcontractors and suppliers.
24. Track project costs and cash flow, proposing cost-saving solutions when necessary without compromising the quality of work.
25. Conduct regular assessments of works on site to ensure progress aligns with project plans and budgets.
26. Compile and present regular project status reports in both internal meetings and client-facing presentations.
27. Participate in and contribute to team discussions, ensuring that all voices are heard to prioritize collaboration and idea-sharing.
