Position Summary

Provide overall technical support and expertise for AEP systems for all brands. Additionally, initiates and drives activities related to ongoing upgrades, enhancements, standards, and maintenance of AEP systems. Attend dry/wet docks to manage planned or unplanned maintenance or projects for various AEP-related systems as assigned to ensure they are accomplished within the prescribed timeframe and budget. Communicate project plan status to shoreside project team and project stakeholders on a regular basis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

General:

1. Maintain communications with Marine Operations to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and governing agencies on all safety, operational, and environmental policies.

2. Ensure there is communication and approval from Flag state, DNV, or other government bodies for any changes to the construction or relevant equipment onboard.

3. Participate in the creation of planning models that support the organization's mission and values based on an internal and external needs assessment.

4. Responsible for conducting pilot programs on such equipment together with ship's personnel to fulfill as directed by RCI Marine Operations senior management.

5. Participate with senior management in the development of long-range planning and objectives.

AEP Systems:

6. Develop and update RCI AEP Maintenance Strategy, including procedures, checklists, documentation, operational structure, monitoring, maintenance, and repair processes.

7. Develop AEP Systems reference library.

8. Work closely with RCI Marine Operations management, Superintendents, manufacturers, class, and other resources to further develop AEP technology in order to improve reliability, maintenance, and operational aspects.

9. Provide reports, evaluate data, and recommend adjustments to plans.

10. Participate in the preparation of AEP repair scheduling and budgeting.

11. Research, evaluate, and identify new industry technology for use onboard RCI ships that align with the departmental strategic plan.

12. Oversee all technically related incidents and ensure those are properly investigated, reported, and corrective actions are implemented.

13. Participate with senior management in the development of long-range planning and objectives.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:

14. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university or the international equivalent preferred. Chief Engineer license preferred.

15. 10+ years background as Naval Architect or Marine/Mechanical Engineer preferred.

16. Experience from a ship management organization, classification society, or similar is a plus.

17. Previous commissioning/operational/major repair or project experience required.

18. Working knowledge of steel structure, welding application, electrical systems, machining, and other shipyard disciplines.

19. Working knowledge and understanding of DNV requirements/protocols, USCG, and Flag state regulations/requirements operating procedures as applied to company vessels.

20. Extensive knowledge of safe work practices in shipyard environments.

21. Ability to manage the financial aspects of the assigned function, including the successful identification of expense reduction through cost efficiencies.

22. Ability to manage headcount within the area.

23. Knowledge of policies and practices involved in the human resources function.

24. Ability to manage a staff in a positive and productive manner by motivating, developing, and managing employees as they work.

25. Ability to utilize and administer the disciplinary action process through coaching and counseling to improve performance or terminate employment.

26. Working knowledge of computers, Internet access, and the ability to navigate within a variety of software packages such as Microsoft (MS) Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Project, AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop and Acrobat, Lotus Notes, and maintenance databases such as AMOS.

Physical Demands:

While performing job functions, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, write, review and type reports, compile data, operate a PC, communicate, listen, and assess information. The employee may move about the office complex, may travel to other office locations, and may lift, push, pull or move 10 - 15 pounds. Visual requirements include distant, close, and color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
