Early Years Practitioner / Educator
The Early Years practitioner will assist in providing a stimulating and varied programme of play, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all the children at all times.
Responsibilities
* Help to set up the play room before the children arrive, ensuring all resources are ready and safe. Tidy up after the children leave and during the session as needed.
* Notify the Manager and Deputy Manager about any area that requires attention such as equipment needing repair or replacement, and ensure the outside area is safe and secure.
* Read and abide by all of The Caterpillar Club's policies and procedures; make management aware of any areas of uncertainty.
* Advise the Manager and Deputy Manager of any concerns about a child’s development or safeguarding issues following the club's policy and procedures; attend half‑termly supervision meetings to discuss concerns about staff and personal development.
* Communicate effectively with and support both staff and volunteers at The Caterpillar Club, working effectively alone on some occasions but also as part of a team.
* Attend statutory training and further personal development sessions, accessing the Dorset For You Nexus website to view available training and book it.
* Attend regular staff meetings to contribute ideas for forward planning and children’s development; participate in special events, outings and visits, some of which may be voluntary to support club fundraising.
* Compile development files showing children’s achievements and progress, with written observations and photographs; encourage continuous development by creating each child’s next steps for development every half‑term or before children achieve their goals; carry out regular observations of children, peers and activities; complete 2‑year checks, Individual Plans and behaviour logs as required with support from the setting's SENCO.
* Liaise with other professionals that may visit the setting to support children’s development such as Portage and SALT, etc.
* Liaise with parents about their child’s development, next steps, and concerns; encourage parental involvement in their child’s development file and support them with what they can do at home.
* Keep completely confidential all information regarding children, their families, and other staff as part of the role.
* Ensure that the children who attend The Caterpillar Club have fun, learn in a stimulating, inclusive and safe environment.
