What is the Role?

Help shape the future of energy. At SSEN Transmission, our Graduate Engineering Programme gives you the chance to work on some of the most exciting infrastructure projects in the UK. You will help connect more renewable energy, strengthen the grid, and play a key role in achieving the UK’s Net Zero targets.

Over two years, you will gain hands‑on experience, professional development and the opportunity to make a real impact from day one. As part of your application, you will select which of our engineering teams you want to join. Each offers a unique opportunity to develop your skills and contribute to the future of energy.

What do I need to Join?

You’ll need a minimum of a 2:2 bachelor’s degree in one of the disciplines listed above.

We are looking for graduates who can demonstrate a passion for the energy sector, ideally supported by some practical work experience. You should have experience working effectively in a team, be comfortable setting and achieving ambitious individual goals, and be able to use your own initiative to overcome challenges. A genuine interest in SSEN Transmission and the prospect of building a long‑term career with us is also essential.

Recruitment Process

We want you to feel confident about what happens next in our recruitment process, which has three stages: Online Testing, Video Interview, and an In‑Person Assessment Centre.

* If your application meets the minimum criteria, we’ll invite you to complete an online test.
* If you’re successful, we’ll be in touch by Monday 10 November 2025 with an invitation to complete an online video interview.
* Our Hiring Managers will carefully review all video interviews, and if you make it through, we’ll contact you by Wednesday 10 December 2025 with an invitation to attend our Assessment Day expected to take place January/February 2026. We need you to confirm your attendance by Sunday 4 January 2026.

We’ll keep you updated at every stage, and if you need any support, whether it’s technical help or adjustments to the process, please get in touch.

About SSE

SSE has a bold ambition – to be a leading energy company in a net‑zero world. We’re investing around £10 million a day in homegrown energy to help power a cleaner, more secure future.

SSEN Transmission owns and operates the electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland. We transport energy from where it is generated to where it is needed, ensuring a safe and reliable electricity supply for the communities we serve. We’re upgrading the grid to deliver cleaner, homegrown energy for the future and building a network for net‑zero to create secure power for generations to come.

Flexible benefits to fit your life

Enjoy discounts on private healthcare and gym memberships. Wellbeing benefits include a free online GP and 24/7 counselling service. Interest‑free loans on tech and transport season tickets, or a new bike with our Cycle to Work scheme. Generous family entitlements such as maternity and adoption pay, and paternity leave.

Work with an equal opportunity employer

SSE will make any reasonable adjustments you need to ensure that your application and experience with us is positive. Please contact us to discuss how we can support you.

We’re dedicated to fostering an open and inclusive workplace where people from all backgrounds can thrive. We create equal opportunities for everyone to succeed and especially welcome applications from those who may not be well represented in our workforce or industry.

Ready to apply?

Start your online application using the Apply Now box on this page. We only accept applications made online. We’ll be in touch after the closing date to let you know if we’ll be taking your application further. If you’re offered a role with SSE, you’ll need to complete a criminality check and a credit check before you start work.

Please note, due to immigration rule changes in July 2025 to the Skilled Worker route, this role falls below the minimum "New Entrant" salary threshold and therefore does not meet the requirements to allow for.
