The RNLI makes the news daily thanks to over 300 volunteer Lifeboat Press Officers. This role supports those volunteers in promotional work, training them in news release writing, basic video editing, social media use, and briefing spokespeople.
Our senior leaders, from the Chief Executive to regional staff, also require media training to handle interviews confidently. You will prepare them to represent the RNLI effectively in front of journalists and supporters.
You will assess training needs, organize workshops, and deliver training to diverse individuals and groups.
Applicants should have practical knowledge of PR or journalism, a passion for teaching, and previous training experience.
You will join a team of PR professionals, including three other Media Trainers, to promote the RNLI's lifesaving work.
This role involves regular travel across the region, covering lifeboat stations and beaches from Shetland to the Scottish Borders. The base is in Perth, with travel to the RNLI’s Support Centre in Poole also required. Flexibility in working hours is essential, as volunteers are often available outside normal hours, including weekends.
A valid driving license is required.
Safeguarding
The RNLI is committed to safeguarding and expects all employees and volunteers to share this commitment. Recruitment will include criminal record checks as appropriate to the role.
Diversity
The RNLI values diversity and inclusivity, welcoming applications from all backgrounds. We seek candidates who share our values: trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable, and who are committed to our vision: To save Every One.
