Buckingham Futures is recruiting a Private Sector Housing Manager to join a forward-thinking local authority in Essex on a permanent basis.
This is a strategic leadership opportunity for a candidate with a proven track record in private sector housing, enforcement, and team management. You will play a pivotal role in shaping service delivery, improving housing conditions, and leading a highly capable team.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership and direction across private sector housing functions.
* Manage, support, and develop a high-performing housing team.
* Oversee service delivery, including enforcement, HMO licensing, and housing standards.
* Ensure full compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
* Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service quality and operational efficiency.
* Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to meet local housing needs.
* Manage budgets, resources, and service performance against key indicators.
* Represent the service at senior-level meetings, tribunals, and legal proceedings where required.
Requirements
* Extensive experience managing private sector housing or environmental health services.
* In-depth knowledge of housing legislation, particularly the Housing Act 2004 and HHSRS.
* Strong leadership and people management skills.
* Proven ability to drive service transformation and improve performance.
* Experience managing budgets and contributing to strategic planning.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
* A relevant qualification in Environmental Health or Housing is desirable.
* Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEH) preferred.
