About the school

St Mark's is a Catholic primary school with a wide catchment area. We are situated at the foot of the Pentland Hills and adjacent to Colinton Mains Park. We are a small school with a maximum capacity of approximately 200 children. Each child is an individual and special. Everyone is given the opportunity to grow and learn in an atmosphere of discipline, kindness and care. Although St Mark's is a Catholic school, families of other faiths or of no faith are welcome within the community of our school.

We believe in enabling every young person to fulfil their potential as an individual and as a member of their wider community. We emphasise the importance of excellent teaching and learning and strive to deliver flexible learning pathways that meet the needs of all young people.

Responsibilities

* Support pupils in the classroom and throughout the school learning environment through organised activities, providing support, assistance and encouragement to help each individual child achieve the best learning outcomes possible.
* Work collaboratively as a member of the Pupil Support Assistant team under the direction and supervision of teaching or nominated staff.

Requirements and checks

* This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. An Overseas Criminal Record Check may be required if applicable. An unconditional offer of employment is subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks.
* The City of Edinburgh Council is an equal opportunities employer and will prevent discrimination on various grounds.

Additional information

We are committed to creating a workplace culture where all staff feel valued and included. We recognise the benefits of a diverse workforce and aim to bring the best people into our roles, not just in skills and experience but also in approach to work.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture, we are moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This will help assess how you think and how you would bring our behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your work.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annual increases until the top of the range. Happy to talk flexible working. Follow us on X at @edincounciljobs.
