Job Details
Within the role of outreach worker, the successful applicant would be expected to engage with individuals affected by substance misuse in community settings, with the goal of reducing harm and facilitating access to treatment and support. The role involves building trusting relationships with service members who may be disengaged from services, including but not limited to rough sleepers, those in temporary accommodation, or individuals involved with the criminal justice system.
Key responsibilities include:
* ·Assertive outreach in various settings (e.g. streets, houses of multiple occupancy, warm welcoming spaces) to identify and engage individuals who use drugs and/or alcohol.
* Providing brief interventions, harm reduction advice, and communicating with harm reduction manager and team for any concerns raised in the local area regarding paraphernalia or naloxone need.
* Supporting individuals to access treatment with South Tyneside Adult Recovery Service, aiming to increase numbers of referrals into treatment.
* Liaising with partner agencies such as housing providers, healthcare services, social care, and probation to provide holistic support.
* Advocating for individuals to ensure they receive the services they need while maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
* Maintaining accurate records and contributing to monitoring and evaluation of outcomes.
* Safeguarding the individuals accessing support.
* Having knowledge of the different teams within the organisation and the ability to link in with different members of the team in relation to service members currently working with the service.

* This role requires strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, resilience, and a deep understanding of the complex issues surrounding substance misuse, including mental health, trauma, homelessness, and social exclusion.
* Ideally applicants will have a driving licence and access to a car to complete outreach work
