Mobile Mechanical Engineer – Full-Time, Permanent
Location: Sutton, Surrey (Covering London, Greater London & South of England)
Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 (Negotiable based on experience & qualifications)
An established Technical M&E service provider is seeking an experienced Mobile Mechanical Engineer to join its team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work on a wide range of commercial building services projects, delivering planned and reactive maintenance, fault-finding, and remedial works across multiple client sites.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will provide maintenance, repairs, and corrective works on plant, equipment, and building systems, with a focus on ensuring safety, reliability, and efficiency. The position requires strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems, alongside the ability to read schematics, diagnose issues, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out planned and unplanned safety inspections and maintenance of mechanical plant and equipment (in line with SFG20 standards).
* Install and maintain a wide range of pipework systems.
* Diagnose and repair faults across hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
* Work with pumps (DOL and inverter-driven), undertaking maintenance and fault repairs.
* Read and interpret schematic drawings to support fault-finding and diagnostics.
* Support electrical/mechanical interface systems, including actuators.
* Assist with minor works projects, preparing details for time, materials, and quotes.
* Maintain accurate records, providing job updates and technical reports as required.
* Adhere to all Health & Safety procedures and ensure safe handling of heavy equipment.
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
* Recognised apprenticeship or qualification (e.g., City & Guilds, BTEC, NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering).
* Strong background in mechanical engineering and plant room operations.
* Proven experience in commercial building services.
* Full UK driving licence (maximum 3 points).
* Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
* Experience with PPM systems of work.
* Ability to work in a multi-skilled role, assisting other trades when required.
* Strong Health & Safety awareness relevant to engineering activities.
Desirable:
* Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
* Knowledge of electrical principles relating to actuation of mechanical systems and plant.
* Familiarity with Home Office Security Vetting (SC) requirements.
