An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager on IAAU/SDEC

IAAU/SDEC is an acute assessment unit and same day emergency care unit within the acute and emergency care group. This ward supports a wide range of patients with an EDD of 4-24 hours. IAAU is a 26 bedded area for rapid assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with view to admit, utilise OPAT or virtual wards, or discharge.

SDEC is a same day emergency care unit with 28 waiting chairs and 8 treatment chairs to rapid assess, diagnose and treat and aim to discharge the same day.

The role will provide opportunity to widen your clinical skill set and clinical knowledge regarding efficient discharge.

The role will also provide an excellent opportunity to develop your leadership skills including people management and ensuring high standards of care.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, organised and dynamic individual, interested in developing their leadership skills supporting the Ward Manager and team on the ward.

An ability to ensure clinical expertise, coordinate safe, effective and high quality care. The individual will be fully supported within the role and a full orientation and competency package offered, and will be developed to the successful candidates needs .

The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with the ward manager, providing clinical leadership, support and supervision. Ensuring standards of care, patient safety and safe practice are maintained.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop knowledge and skills in clinical governance. It is expected they will be able to work in a fast-paced environment, acting within expected professional standards at all times.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. •Registered Nurse – in appropriate branch
2. •Diploma in Nursing or evidence of recent relevant CPD at diploma level
3. •Qualified mentor (ENB 998 or mentorship award or equivalent) or working towards

Desirable criteria

4. •Degree in Nursing or working towards
5. •Leadership Qualification

Occupational Experience

Essential criteria

6. •Minimum 24 Months experience

Desirable criteria

7. •Experience of managing a team or area within a ward area
