Underwriter – Portfolio & Specialty
Global Reinsurance
London
£110k plus 20% bonus
DATAHEAD are partnering with a leading global reinsurance group to appoint an ambitious Underwriter to join their expanding European portfolio team in London. This is a rare opportunity to move into a front-line underwriting role with direct exposure to senior leadership and high-value speciality business across multiple classes.
The Role
Working closely with the CUO and senior underwriters, you’ll support the origination, pricing, and underwriting of a diverse portfolio of (re)insurance business. You’ll take ownership of deal analysis, portfolio performance monitoring, and bespoke risk evaluation — while liaising directly with brokers and clients on transactions typically valued between £10m–£15m.
This is an ideal next step for a portfolio or underwriting analyst who has developed strong technical, analytical, and pricing skills within specialty or reinsurance markets and is now looking for a more client-facing, underwriting-focused role.
Key Responsibilities
* Underwrite and evaluate bespoke (re)insurance submissions across multiple speciality classes.
* Analyse portfolio trends, pricing dynamics, and risk exposures to support underwriting decisions.
* Liaise with brokers and clients to negotiate terms and structure deals.
* Prepare underwriting packs and performance reporting for senior management.
* Collaborate with actuarial, finance, and operations teams to ensure accuracy and compliance.
* Contribute to strategic initiatives supporting portfolio growth and efficiency.
About You
* 2–4 years’ experience within a reinsurance or speciality insurance environment (underwriting, portfolio, or risk analysis).
* Strong quantitative and analytical capability, with working knowledge of pricing models, SQL, or Power BI.
* Experience supporting or directly contributing to deal underwriting and portfolio reporting.
* Confident communicator, comfortable engaging brokers, clients, and senior stakeholders.
* Ambitious and commercially minded, eager to transition into a broader underwriting remit.
Why Join?
This is a unique chance to build underwriting depth at one of the world’s most respected reinsurance platforms. You’ll work directly with CUOs, gain visibility across classes, and help shape a growing European portfolio — blending analytical precision with hands-on underwriting exposure.
If you’re ready to step up from portfolio analysis into a high-exposure underwriting role, we’d love to hear from you.
