We have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and passionate rugby coach to join a dedicated team in one of our three women and girl’s Player Development Centres (PDCs) based in North Wales; PDC North.

The PDC network exists to provide a high-quality, localised day-to-day training and coaching programme for Wales’ most high potential, pre-elite female players aged 14 – 22.

The PDC Coach will oversee all activity within the Talent Discovery Phase (ages 14–16) and the Emerging Player Programme (EPP), operating across 2-3 satellite centres in North Wales, based at Stadiwm CSM. The successful candidate will also coach and support the Talent Development Group (TDG, ages 16–18) and contribute to the delivery of the Performance Development Group (PDG).

Driving the player and personal development philosophy and performance standards across the PDC, the PDC Coach will directly support the WRU strategic objective of ‘developing more and better players for the professional game and for Wales through life enriching experiences’.

Salary: £24,000- £29,000 per annum

Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time Hours

Location: Parc Eirias, Colwyn Bay, North Wales/Remote

The Person

The successful candidate will be a WRU Level 3 qualified coach (or international equivalent), registered/recognised as a WRU Performance Coach, with at least 2 years coaching experience across various development environments including schools, clubs, and talent discovery programmes. They will have a deep understanding of the challenges and demands of performance coaching, particularly with women and girl players, with specific expertise in supporting the developmental needs of female athletes aged 14 to 18.

The candidate will demonstrate a clear awareness of broader educational, vocational, and social factors influencing elite young players, ensuring a holistic approach to development. They will have proven ability in designing, delivering, and evaluating engaging, inspiring, and challenging high-performance learning environments that promote both short-term success and long-term progression. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, leadership by example, and fostering cultures of growth, accountability, and continuous improvement are essential.

They will excel in building and maintaining strong professional relationships and networks with stakeholders, contributing to shared goals, and be comfortable working independently and as part of a team.

The Role

The key coach in the PDC will be responsible for delivering all aspects of the programme in North Wales. This includes:

1. Overseeing and managing the Talent Discovery Phase (14-16) and the Emerging Player Programme (EPP) across 2–3 sites, ensuring effective delivery aligned with the PDC’s vision and objectives. Responsibilities include staff management, planning and leading training sessions, providing direct coaching, logistical management, and administrative tasks.
2. Delivering a structured, age-appropriate curriculum focusing on technical skills, tactical understanding, teamwork, and positive behaviours.
3. Collaborating with other PDC staff to ensure evidence-based talent identification and confirmation principles are in place to maintain a robust talent pipeline.
4. Developing relationships across North Wales with local clubs, schools, and colleges to promote the game and increase access for young players.
5. Supporting coaches within the PDC network with mentoring and resources to enhance coaching standards.
6. Supporting coaching delivery to the Talent Development (TDG, 16–18) and Performance Development Groups (PDG).
7. Contributing to national projects aligned with WRU Women’s and Girls’ Strategic Objectives as directed.

WRU Requirements

Proficiency in IT skills, especially Microsoft packages, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build strong stakeholder relationships are essential. Welsh language skills and a valid UK Driver's License are desirable. The role is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
