We are looking for a Laboratory Analyst (Toxicology Team) to join our team.
The Role
The post holder will perform routine analyses using the techniques of, but not limited to, immunoassay, LLE, SLE and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS-MS) to a legally defensible standard. As part of the role, the post holder will also carry out administrative tasks to ensure continuity of samples for each case and other general analytical chemistry laboratory procedure where required. As an analyst, the post holder will complete instrument maintenance, staff training where required and ensure completion of all required documentation throughout the laboratory.
Role Responsibilities Include:
· Ensure compliance with GDPR, ISO17025, Lab 51, ISO9001 and ISO 14001 in addition to all departmental procedures, policies and protocols within the QMS/EMS.
· Analysing samples for alcohol biomarkers and a range of drugs using instrumentation listed above.
· Evaluating and critically assessing data from analysis for interpretation by the reporting scientist.
· Reporting of results for both workplace and legal cases where required.
· To provide support services to the Toxicology Team, including reagent preparation, sample preparation/accessioning and lab maintenance.
· Maintaining a clean working environment within the laboratory ensuring completion of all relevant paperwork.
· Provision and co-ordination of regular calibration, maintenance checks and stock control on instruments and equipment.
· Preparation of standards and reagents as and when required.
· Adherence to Good Laboratory practice and quality systems.
· Training new and existing employees.
· Aid and participate in method validations and verifications as requested.
· Reporting of quality/environmental non-conformances/incidents and technical problems to the relevant manager or senior analyst as required.
Person Specification:
· Degree in a relevant scientific discipline and/or relevant experience of working in a high throughput ISO17205 laboratory environment.
· Excellent communication skills at all levels with the ability to work as part of a team or alone when required.
· Meticulous attention to detail.
· Good IT skills.
· Embraces continuous improvement and submits ideas to promote savings ideas throughout the team.
· Promotes a right first-time attitude with a quality focus whilst completing live work tasks.
Additional requirements:
In order to meet the Laboratory requirements all staff must have a flexible approach to their working week. All Laboratory Scientists are expected to work late, when required, to meet the needs and turnaround times of our customers.
The post holder must be an effective communicator and be able to work in a team or alone when required. The post holder must be able to identify their limitations and voice their requirements for further training to their line manager. Laboratory Analysts are required to dress smartly to ensure when visitors tour the laboratory complex the right image is maintained.
