We are looking for an enthusiastic and hard-working people person, to help work in our cafe and visitor centre at our Bempton Cliffs Reserve. Bempton Cliffs, on the spectacular Yorkshire coast, just 6 miles from Bridlington, is home to one of the UK's top wildlife spectacles. Around half a million seabirds gather here between March and August to raise a family on the towering chalk cliffs that overlook the North Sea. The huge white chalk cliffs at Bempton are impressive at any time of year. But visit between April and July, and you'll find them transformed into England’s largest seabird city. Here Puffins, Gannets, Kittiwakes, Razorbills and Guillemots live life on the edge. There are more Gannets acrobatically diving into the deep here than anywhere else on mainland England. With over 100,000 visitors each year, Bempton Cliffs offers the perfect setting to connect people with nature and inspire them to support conservation. About the Role Our work in the visitor centre is planned via the use of rotas and will include weekend and bank holiday working. Full induction and training will be provided, with opportunities to learn about the running of a busy visitor centre and nature reserve operation. Our cafe and reception operations are a crucial part of what we do here, encouraging visitors to explore the reserve, and giving them a great visitor experience. You will be a part of our cafe team, helping to serve customers, and undertaking other duties typical of a busy cafe and kitchen operation. You will be able to communicate well with our visitors and offer excellent levels of customer care. Duties may also include working on our meet and greet operation, welcoming visitors to the reserve, giving out information, and encouraging visitors to support our work. Essential skills, knowledge and experience: GCSE Maths and English or equivalent. Basic food hygiene knowledge Computer literate. Enthusiastic approach to work. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Ability to plan and prioritise workloads. Multitasking skills Problem-solving skills and ability to work on own initiative. Ability to manage and respond quickly and positively to customer needs and feedback. Ability to work as part of a team. Desirable skills, knowledge and experience: Experience of working at a catering environment/visitor attraction. Knowledge of health and safety in the workplace. Knowledge of food and foodservice skills. Till operation and payment handling. Additional Information: Three fixed-term, variable hours positions are available: 6 month contract, minimum 7.5 hours per week 6 month contract, minimum 13.5 hours per week 3 month contract, minimum 12 hours per week All positions will include weekend and bank holiday working, additional hours will be available to meet the business need and cover annual leave. The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make these roles permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.
