Job overview

Our Specialist Community Eating Disorder Service has an opportunity to for a Senior practitioner to join our dynamic MDT. We have an excellent reputation and strong links to CAMHS and paediatric teams across the GM network,

The post is based in our South hub in Stockport, where we work with young people aged 8-18 with a primary eating disorder, who live in the boroughs of Stockport and Tameside and Glossop


Main duties of the job

The post-holder will provide specialist assessment of young people with eating disorders and offer a wide range of psycho-therapeutic evidenced based interventions.

As a band 7 practitioner, the post holder will be expected to provide professional clinical supervision and support the psychological assessment and therapy provided by other practitioners, as well as contribute to the leadership of the service under the direction of the senior management team.

* Have qualifications or experience to masters level in any relevant discipline e.g. nursing, social work, clinical psychology or occupational therapy.
* Have experience/training in an additional therapeutic modality - motivational interviewing/CBT or a willingness to work towards.
* Have an interest/passion for improving life experience for young people and families.
* Have substantial experience of working with children, adolescents and families presenting with emotional and behavioural difficulties, family relationship problems including experience of working with young people with eating disorders.
* Enjoy working in a MDT setting.
* Have experience of managing a caseload and associated professional activities under supervision.
* Have experience of providing evidence based psychological therapy to children and adolescents.
* Have experience of providing clinical supervision and line management to team members.
* Have experience of using ROMs.
* Have experience of teaching and liaising with other professional groups.
* Have experience in developing formulations.


Person specification


Knowledge


Essential criteria

* Theoretical approach and understanding to child mental health and development
* Ability to demonstrate evidence of up to date knowledge of eating disorders and its application to children and young people
* Knowledge of relevant legislation and government policy relating to children’s mental health
* Child protection knowledge and practice
* Specific theoretical knowledge related to therapeutic speciality
* Understanding of principles and methods of clinical audit research and service evaluation
* Understanding of current multi-agency landscape including public sector reform


Experience


Essential criteria

* Substantial experience of working with children, adolescents and families presenting with emotional and behavioural difficulties inc family relationship problems, including experience of working with young people with eating disorders
* Working in a MDT setting
* Managing a caseload and associated professional activities under supervision
* Experience of providing evidence based psychological therapy to children and adolescents
* Experience of providing clinical supervision and line management to team members
* Experience of using ROM
* Experience of teaching and liaising with other professional groups
* Experience in developing formulations
* Significant experience working in a multi-agency context


Desirable criteria

* Working in a service where agreed targets are in place demonstrating clinical outcomes


Qualification / experience


Essential criteria

* Qualifications and experience to Masters Level in any relevant discipline e.g. nursing, social work, clinical psychology or occupational therapy
* Experience/ training in motivational interviewing/ CBT or willingness to work towards
* Relevant professional registration (RMN/SW/HCPC)


Desirable criteria

* Masters Degree
* Additional post graduate qualifications relevant to child mental health
* Additional accredited training
* Specialist post qualification training in psychological therapy with children and families to at least equivalent of a post graduate diploma level
* Accreditation with the appropriate accrediting bodies governing the specific modality ( e.g. BABCP, IY)
* Non-medical Prescribing

* Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing ,complex, technical and sensitive information to children, young people and families/carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
* Good standards of Verbal and written skills
* Able to work effectively an as an integral member of the multi disciplinary team
* Ability to relate relevant theory to practice
* Ability to work autonomously and to use initiative
* Organisational, time management, report writing and record keeping skills
* IT skills
* Ability to manage change and motivate staff
* Ability to be self reflective whilst working with service users, in own personal and professional development and in supervision.
* Ability to work under pressure
* Caring and sensitive to the needs of patients, staff and colleagues
* Ability to identify and manage expose to distressing situations and challenging behaviours
* Be able to listen carefully to a young person who may be distressed and be able to maintain the therapeutic role and task
* Keep accurate records of sessions and be able to complete ROM using IT systems
