Overview
The Mechanical Workshop Team Lead has line managing responsibility for the staff of the Vehicle Workshop and the Environmental Test Centre Workshop at QinetiQ's Shoeburyness site. The key to this role is the ability to work with important internal and project stakeholders to support the Environmental Test Centre capability delivery, Range capability delivery, as well as support to site maintenance and fabrication needs. Day‑to‑day, you’ll support team members within the workshop, oversee the running and maintenance of the workshop and tooling to keep it in optimal working order. You will liaise with internal and external stakeholders to plan and manage the testing and durability of various munitions in a safe and controlled environment. You will ensure that the team has the appropriate competence and behaviours to deliver their work in a safe manner in accordance with QinetiQ Engineering Principles. Maintain risk assessments for the Engineering section, including COSHH, PUWER, Risk, Manual Handling, Noise, Environmental, DSE and PPE.
Responsibilities
* Overseeing maintenance and repair of facilities and engineering workshop techniques
* Challenge poor behaviours and make corrective changes in their team and across other teams
* Provide advice, assurance and best practice into programmes containing a large element of mechanical engineering capability
* Delivery, support and technical leadership
* Risk management and ensure all tests are carried out in the safest way possible
* Understand the broad and diverse technical domains that their engineering team supports and the implications to the development and sustainment of capability
* Demonstrable experience working in an engineering maintenance environment with a technical leadership background
* Leadership and capability development of teams to meet specific objectives
* Stakeholder engagement and leadership (both within and external to QinetiQ) to ensure successful delivery of complex projects
Qualifications
* Mechanical Engineering based degree or similar
* Understanding of POWER, LOLER and COSHH regulations
* Minimum SC clearance eligibility
* Experience managing a multi‑disciplinary workshop team
Work Information
This role is 37 hours per week based at Shoeburyness. The expectation for this role is 4–5 days a week on site.
