Public Affairs Officer – London/Hybrid (London Bridge/SE1 3GN)
Reporting to Head of Policy Campaigns and Impact. Permanent, Full time (35 hrs/week) with flexible hours.
Salary: £35,708.40 + £6,000 London Weighting.

Job Overview
The Public Affairs Officer will work closely with the Campaigns and Public Affairs Team to influence policy, build relationships with MPs, peers and staffers and support cross‑organisational influencing strategies. Key focus in the first six months is relationship building, mastering organisational processes and establishing reporting systems.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in policy and advocacy activities – parliamentary events, conferences, briefings and MP engagement.
* Horizon scanning of Westminster, government departments and city regions for opportunities to advance our arguments.
* Stakeholder mapping – identify parliamentarians, build profiles of their interests and maintain a core stakeholder list.
* Support colleague preparation for high‑value interactions and record contact details.
* Network building – develop contacts with support staff in political offices and across other organisations for collaboration.
* Observe and report on speeches, conferences and committee hearings.
* Work with broader teams to support “Stretch Policy Groups” in mapping potential MPs.
* Own the tracking system for impact and measure progress against influencing objectives.
* Find parliamentary opportunities to use policy proposals.
* Co‑ordinate with Senior Public Affairs Officer on effective political engagement.
Qualifications & Experience
* Experience (paid or voluntary) in public affairs/policy/political team, with initiative and flexibility.
* Networking and interpersonal skills to build and promote relationships.
* Analytical, research and problem‑solving skills.
* Confidence managing multiple projects to tight deadlines.
* Team collaboration across multi‑disciplinary groups.
* Desirable: tracking political engagement across a campaign; experience with people living in poverty and hardship campaigning.
* Strong understanding of UK Government and Parliamentary procedure.
* Excellent written and verbal communication, engaging parliamentary audiences.
* Good grasp of low‑income household issues and political impacts.
* Understanding of the organisation’s mission and policy aims.
* Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
Working Conditions
Based at the London office with hybrid working – staff encouraged to attend at least twice a week. Role subject to satisfactory references.
