Main Purpose of the role To coordinate and deliver the timely build of newly developed machines, including prototypes and pre-production models, in line with agreed R&D project schedules. You will ensure machines are built to production standards, identify and report design and build issues, and work closely with Engineering and Manufacturing teams to improve product design and assembly processes. The role supports continuous improvement, design for manufacture (DFM), and efficient build methods, while acting as a flexible resource across R&D, Production Engineering and PDI when required. Primary Responsibilities Act as a senior member of the NPD assembly team, completing assembly, testing and commissioning activities on time and to specification. Identify and resolve assembly issues quickly, communicating effectively with R&D Engineering and Production Engineering teams. Support NPD manufacturing and engineering teams in achieving project and build targets. Trial new and modified parts and support part changeovers. Upgrade machines to current production standards. Track and manage machines within the PDI area. Ensure compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation. Ensure compliance with Ishida quality standards and shop-floor discipline. Achieve KPI targets for Right First Time (RFT), efficiency, utilisation, cost and on-time delivery. Support the setup and operation of an NPD Assembly Cell. Lead and contribute to continuous improvement activities. Meet all deadlines and targets set by the Team Leader or Manager. Welcome customers and visitors professionally at all times. Coach, support and develop team members as required. Build effective working relationships across departments. Escalate HR or Health & Safety concerns to the Team Leader or Manager. Other Responsibilities Take reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of others. Demonstrate and uphold company values in all interactions. Undertake any reasonable task appropriate to your skills and role. What skills are we looking for? The successful candidate must have a recognised engineering qualification, with strong mechanical fitting experience and the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and electrical schematics. You will be competent in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and ideally hold a full UK driving licence and valid passport. Experience working within a manufacturing environment is essential, preferably within OEM settings, along with exposure to Ishida machinery or similar. You will demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities, an understanding of manufacturing processes, and the ability to prioritise workload in line with project schedules. Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, including PFMEA, time studies, waste identification, and standard build processes, is highly desirable, along with the ability to manage build documentation, route cards, and snag lists. The ideal candidate will have experience in leadership or supervisory roles, with a proactive and structured approach to continuous improvement and value-efficient processes. A background in lean manufacturing, including concepts such as Poka-Yoke, the 8 wastes, and production cell setup, would be advantageous. You will be a strong communicator, able to engage effectively with both your team and senior stakeholders, and demonstrate a positive, “can-do” attitude.
