An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Councils In house passenger fleet team for an additional role as transport Manager.
The role supports the team manager and colleagues in the same post and will be responsible for key areas of the operation.
We are looking for an experienced manager to provide visible leadership, direction, and management for the supervisory staff in the passenger fleet team responsible for managing the in-house workforce and contingent staff to deliver the in-house Transport Operations Service in an efficient and safe manner.
You will be expected to provide effective medium-term strategic planning, operational performance, and financial management to ensure that services provided by the Council are robust enough to deliver the desired outcomes and meet all statutory duties and responsibilities.
About the Role
As a transport manager you will:
Be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the council’s passenger transport operation, managing the demands of home to school transport and Adult Social Care transport alongside other external revenue-generation work.
Be responsible for routine, day to day management decisions and demand control.
Take a proactive role in influencing organisational culture, driving innovation and transformation
Be responsible for technical advice to members, partners and stakeholders on policies, performance and budget to ensure the efficient delivery of services and ensure appropriate communication and dialogue takes place.
And to
Manage and lead a dedicated County wide team of Drivers, escorts and contingent workers in accordance with agreed performance standards. Providing front line day to day supervision to ensure all operational aspects of the Passenger Fleet operate effectively and efficiently.
The nature of the work will involve the jobholder carrying out work outside of normal working hours to support the needs of the team.
This post is based in County Hall, but the nature of the work requires the jobholder to carry out work at different locations around the County and therefore will need access to a car for work purposes.

About You
To apply for this post, you must:
1. Degree or equivalent relevant qualification (Management qualification NVQ Level 5 in Management Studies, ILM Level 5 First Line Management) and Recognised Health & Safety qualification (. NEBOSH, IOSH) or demonstrable experience.
2. Experience Leading and managing a front-line operational service in line with defined frameworks for performance management, in line with a departmental / service plan. This will include the effective management of Health and Safety and risk.
3. Significant experience in managing attendance and behaviour in line with organisational policies
4. Experience of implementation of a service which meets the strategic outcomes of the organisation.
5. Experience managing budgets in line with the organisation’s financial management practices and policies.
6. Experience working with key stakeholders to deliver outputs and outcomes.
7. Experience implementing continuous improvement strategies to maximise service effectiveness and/or efficiency.
